Date of Trip: Saturday, December 7, 2013
Location: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

Details: Cloudy eventually giving way to partly cloudy. Temps began at 38, climbing to 46. A 15 mph breeze made it feel much colder. We left promptly at 6:00, arriving at the Cambridge Visitor Center at 7:30. We enjoyed expected diving ducks. We then toured the Cambridge waterfront to Hambrooks Bay, though Oakley Street lacked the usual huge raft of Canvasbacks and other diving ducks. Then off to Blackwater. A nice selection there, but the waterfowl variety seemed thin. We did find one American White Pelican, and the Gadwall and Hooded Merganser numbers were impressive. Cedar Creek Road was in poor condition, highlight was an American Bittern seen by the rear three cars, but missed by the leader's car.
