Field Trip: Saturday, February 26, 2005
Carroll County Environs

Trip Leader: Wilkinson , Jim

Date of Trip: Saturday, February 26, 2005

Location: Carroll County Environs

Details: In about 5 hours of birding we saw or heard 45 bird species in the Taneytown area in northwest Carroll County (9 species/hour), not bad for winter birding away from any large water bodies. In Frederick County we added Eastern Bluebird, and in the Gettysburg area we added Black-capped Chickadee and Short-eared Owl. The target Horned lark flocks were never more than about 8-10 birds, and no species were found intermingling with them. Temperatures were 28-38F, wind calm to 12 mph, and mostly sunny, with about 2-4 inches snow cover.
